Circa ---- Childer Thornton
This is the second in my collection of “Circa” caches, which are primarily intended to be completed on foot and are wheelchair accessible. Hopefully you will enjoy an easy stroll around the area of Childer Thornton, whilst looking out for some dated buildings. Dating a building is a long tradition, the trouble however with some of these inscriptions, useful though they are, is that you cannot always be sure that they are right (many have been added by later owners) or that they date more than a particular feature or phase of development. The attraction of Childer Thornton is that it is surrounded by rural countryside and yet is only minutes by car from the M53 motorway linking Chester with Liverpool. Childer Thornton has two very good public houses one of which is a former coaching stop between Chester and New Ferry. The final cache consists of a 35mm film canister, which is attached to its location by a magnet. To find the co-ordinates of this final location you will need to note down some dates and substitute them into the following formula. Make sure however, that you are at the correct location, have the correct date and enter the information with care.
N 53° 1 ( Q - C ) . ( R ) ( G ) ( V )
W 002° 5 ( V + C + N ) . ( X – Y ) ( K – C – H ) ( S )
The dates you are looking for in no particular order can be found: -
· White Lion Public House, New Road. ABCD
· Sandstone building, School Lane. EFGH
· The black and white building on the corner of School Lane and Chester Road. JKLM
· Virginia Terrace, New Road. NPQR
· Parkside, Chester Road. STUV
· House, on the corner of Heath Lane and Blackboards Lane. WXYZ
The co-ordinates at the top of the page are for suggested parking and not the cache site.
