Geocache Description:

Welcome to the RCGDS Mile!!

The local Geocaching group has adopted this mile stretch of the American River Parkway and we hope that you enjoy your stay.  The water is cool, the summers are hot and the bike trail is a buzzing!!

This cache serves a few functions.  First and foremost it is a traditional Geocache open to anyone to find and log.  But if you want to participate as you cache read on….  You DO NOT need to be a RCGDS member, or even a cacher, to participate!!

Remember, Practice "Cache In Trash Out"

While out geocaching, bring a bag with you to pick up trash along the way.

Below is information regarding the group’s stewardship of Mile 22S of the American River Parkway .  It is our responsibility to put in a minimum of 20 hours per quarter maintaining this stretch of the parkway.(Collectively)  Our main function will be litter collection but could also include invasive plant removal or other coordinated maintenance projects.  This cache will serve as a supply and information point for the cachers/volunteers wishing to participate in keeping our mile pristine.  Inside you will find supplies, forms and instructions for submitting your efforts for credit.

How to participate, it’s simple!!

Standard Parkway Warnings – Be aware of Poison Oak, Snakes, Ticks and other regular outdoor hazards.  Use the appropriate common sense when out caching along the river.

  • Step 1 - Grab a trash bag and a Waiver from the cache or bring one from home and pick up trash while out enjoying this stretch of the river.

  • Step 2 – Drop whatever you have collected at any of the trash receptacles along the bike trail or in any of the parking lots.

  • Step 3 – Log your hours with me, SNSpencer (Jef Spencer). See below for how.

That’s it!!

How to submit your hours.

This is a simple process as well.  Jef Spencer, better known as SNSpencer will facilitate the recording and submission of hours worked to the American River Parkway Foundation.

  • Step 1 – You only need to do this once per calendar year.  Inside this cache you will find ARPF waivers of Liability.  Simply complete the form and send it to me (Jef Spencer) using one of the envelopes inside the cache.  Or scan and email it to SNSpencer@yahoo.com. (You can download this form as well, see the download section)

  • Step 2 – Complete the “Hours Submission” online form, it’s quick and simple!! Click Here to Submit Hours

  • Step 3 – Repeat the process for each person in your group who helped.

Done, your hours have now been recorded!  Remember, you can do this whenever you are out exploring the RCGDS mile!!
