Geocache Description:

This short, two-stage multi-cache is located at the Bedford County Library. The first stage is located outside near the parking lot, it is not a container; it is strictly a clue to finding the second stage. Use your library knowledge; if you can't find it, 'return' and you will have more luck.
EDIT: DUE TO CHANGES AT GROUND ZERO, THE FIRST STAGE HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH THE FOLLOWING CLUE: REF910A
The final is hidden among the shelves.

I am convinced that even in today's world of Wikipedia and YouTube, the public library holds an important role, even a vital role. Like many others, when I look for information, I often turn to my computer and the internet. Yet, I prize the time that I spend at a local library. The internet is quick and impersonal. Sometimes the search is more important than the finding, the journey more important than the destination. As Pascal once said, "We never seek things for themselves- what we seek is the very seeking of things." As fellow geocachers, I'm sure you feel this way also, as this has become like an edict of the game.

This being the case, when visiting the library, I will often find myself aimlessly perusing the shelves, handling the books, flipping the pages. Sometimes I'll read a few chapters in a book only to return it to the shelf; it almost seems unfair to spend too much time on a single book when there are so many more begging for my attention. There is something about a book that the pixels on a screen cannot satisfy. The smell, the texture of a tangible thing. Isaac Asimov touched on this idea in his work, 'Gold'. In his story he was, of course, speaking of currency, but it has the same affect: "Money, when it was a matter of electronic exchange, meant nothing. Gold was different. It had a feel. Each piece had a weight. Piled together it had a gleaming beauty." Books, as opposed to information, have that same appeal.

As always, be respectful of other library visitors, and the library staff. This cache was placed with permission from the library director and head librarian. The library staff has asked that cachers follow library guidelines and etiquitte. I would like to thank the library for allowing this cache.

If you have any problems, comments, questions or need help with a puzzle or finding a cache, please feel free to contact me through my profile. I love to hear from cachers and like to see 'found it' logs on my caches.
