However, this island reminded me of a story:
"Snaik, Big Wolf, Haggis Hunter, The Janny and Kryten were out
on a geocaching trip when they became shipwrecked on a tropical
island. They spent the first day gathering bananas for food.
Whilst gathering the bananas, they found a monkey who followed them
back to their camp. The five geocachers piled all the bananas
together and then went to sleep for the night.
But when they were all asleep Snaik woke up, and he thought
there might be a row about dividing the bananas in the morning, so
he decided to take his share. He divided the bananas into five
piles but he had one banana left over, so he gave that to the
monkey to keep him quiet. Then he hid his pile (under some
stick-o-flage, at the base of a tree) and put the rest all back
together.
By and by, Big Wolf woke up and did the same thing. He too divided
the bananas into five piles and had one left over, which he gave to
the monkey. He hid his share (behind a large rock) and then
went back to sleep.
Eventually the remaining three geocachers did the same thing,
one after the other; each one taking a fifth of the bananas in the
pile when he woke up, and each one having one left over for the
monkey. In the morning they divided what bananas were left, and
they came out in five equal shares. The monkey did not get
one this time. Of course each geocacher knew there were
bananas missing; but each one was guilty as the others, so they
didn't say anything.
How many bananas were there in the beginning?"
