Holland's Amusement Park
That's right, the posted coordinates are at the site of what was
once a large amusement park in Holland, including a
state-of-the-art wooden roller coaster that thrilled thousands of
visitors per year. But that was a long time ago...
To find the coordinates for this cache, you just need to learn a
little about this lost amusement park. It isn't intended to be a
difficult puzzle, and in fact all of the information is available
online if you search for the right things.
The cache is located at N 42 AA.AAA, W 86 BB.BBB. In order to find
the missing coordinates, do the following.
- Find the full name of the amusement park (it was 3 words). Take
just the second word and convert each letter to its corresponding
number (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc). Add them together to get X.
- Find the year that the roller coaster opened (not the park, but
the roller coaster), and call that Y.
- Find the year the roller coaster closed, and call that Z.
Now compute AA.AAA as follows:
AA.AAA = ((X + Y + Z) * 12 - 109) / 1000
Compute BB.BBB as follows:
BB.BBB = ((Y * 3) + (Z * 2) - X + 54) / 1000
Note: the cache is not on private property. There
are
houses nearby, but the cache and your approach to it should
not
require you to enter private property.
