Bridge over the Avenue at Stream Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

PurplePenguin: Time to archive this cache, as there is nowhere suitable to rehide it that isn't covered in brambles and nettles or too obvious. Thanks to all who have visited it over the last 8 years. I have retrieved the container and will hide it somewhere else.

Geocache Description:

Short walk along a footpath to a stone bridge

I suggest that you park opposite the church at Williton - ST 076 408 -and walk up the drive to the Bakelite Museum and follow the footpath which goes round the back of it, through a small wood and out into the fields. There isn’t much parking at the Stream end of the footpath. The Bakelite Museum is worth a visit. It also has a café but I have not sampled their food. It doesn’t appear to have its own website, so I’m not sure how you find out when it is open.

The cache, which is a black-lidded screw top plastic jar, is not hidden on the bridge but within a short distance. Why is this stone bridge here, as it only crosses a drive and not the stream? I can only suppose that this was once the main drive to Orchard Wyndham House, which you can see through the trees at the end of the avenue of tall trees and the occupants at that time didn’t want to encounter ordinary folk using the footpath while driving up and down it! Any other ideas? More information about the house can be found here: (visit link) and here (visit link) .
I think it is occasionally open to the public but they don’t appear to have their own website

I suspect the brambles near the cache could be quite prolific and vicious in the summer months. There is no need to leave the footpath or to climb over any fences.
