#2 in a series
of discontinued, abandoned, or long forgotten roads within
Townsend.
Townsend has a few roads that over the course of time have been
abandoned, discontinued, or maintenance has stopped on them.
Elm Street in the center of Townsend used to take a slightly
different route than you can see today. The current bridge over the
river is relatively new, and the road used to meander a little more
toward the east.
From the spot where this cache is hidden, you can look across the
river and see the abuttment where the original bridge used to span
the river.
Close by this cache is a road (sometimes partially blocked off or
gated) that leads out into an old sandpit, and about a half mile
after that lies the old Townsend Trotting Park where you can see
the remnants of a horse racing track, now long abandoned and
overgrown.
...hhhmmm - sounds like another road lost to time, memory, and the
elements.
