St James, Holt

The Victorian church of Holt St James was completed in 1835 to a design by John Tulloch as a replacement for an earlier chapel which was recorded as existing in 1368 which was built so that the inhabitants would not have to walk to Wimborne for services, which they were finding trying in bad weather.
It is a simple building with some beautiful stained glass windows and a very fine Jacobean pulpit, which had become redundant in Wimborne Minster and so was brought to Holt in 1875. There is also a carved oak reredos which was erected in 1902
