Salamis is the nearest island to Athens in the Saronic Gulf and the largest of the saronic island cluster .
It is located in the north of the Saronic Gulf and it is separated from the coast of Attica by the Strait of Pahi in the northwest the close of Piraeus to the east. To the north of Salamis lies the Bay of Eleusis.
Salamis is the island of the famous greek naval battle that took place in 480 BC in the island straits between the fleets of the Athenians and the Persians.
It is an island with lush greenery and picturesque harbors. Those guests wishing to swim should be directed to the southern part of the island where the water is very clear and expecialy to the beaches Selinia, Kaki Vigla, Kanakia, Peristeria Gyala and Satirli.
In the villages of the island we find examples of folk architecture. The island's capital, Salamis is a modern city which is not missing however the traditional neighborhoods. In Ambelakia you can find the Acropolis of ancient Salamis and in Peristeria the cave of Euripides, which are worth visiting.
You will find hotels and apartments that offer guests all the amenities. While there is not lacking in nightlife.
There is a frequent ferry connection between Perama -Paloukia and Pachi Megaron-Faneromeni and also a more scarce connection by small boats from Piraeus.
If you do not have a car there are 2 ways to approach the Area of the Cache.
A) By train or bus to Piraeus. There from the Gate E7 take boat to Paloukia Salamina
There are from 2-10 daily routes.
B) By bus lines B18 and C18 from Omonia Square to Perama . From Perama take the Ferry or boat to Paloukia (there is a 24h connection every 15 minutes and the journey takes 15 minutes).
As soon as you get of the boat or ferry go to the KTEL Bus station and ask for the Bus to Kolones. There should be 4-5 buses daily
If you come by your own car you should only use option B since the boat from Piraeus its not a ferry and it takes no cars.
Also for car-takers 600 meters before the cache is a place where you can park your car.
There is a dirt road which continues until the lighthouse if you have an suv or 4wd but it is in a very bad condition and there may be unpleasant surprises.
The area of the cache is called Pharos (Lighthouse in greek). As soon as you start to approach the spot you will see the lighthouse between the land and the sea. The view is one of a kind.
The lighthouse is open for you to visit if you wish. It is from the days when the lighthouse keeper used to live in spot and therefore the basement is like a normal house (deserted now offcourse) . You can climb the stairs (2 floors and a bit risky) if you wish to see what the lighthouse keeper used to see from high above . But the view is still magnificent even if you stay in the basement balcony.
The cache is a medium sized Tupperware and you might need a bit of a climbing for the last 10 m.
So please wear comfortable shoes and use caution. Also there maybe some litter in the area so take a bag with you . Remember Cache In Trash Out.

Η Σαλαμίνα είναι το πλησιέστερο νησί στην Αθήνα και το μεγαλύτερο του Σαρωνικού νησιωτικού συμπλέγματος.
Η Σαλαμίνα είναι το νησί της περίφημης ελληνικής ναυμαχία που έλαβε χώρα το 480 π.Χ. στα στενά του νησιού μεταξύ των στόλων των Αθηναίων και των Περσών.
Είναι ένα νησί με πλούσια πρασινάδα και τα γραφικά λιμανάκια. Οι επισκέπτες που επιθυμούν να κολυμπήσουν θα πρέπει να κατευθύνθούν προς το νότιο τμήμα του νησιού και κυριώς στις παραλίες Σελήνια, Κακή Βίγλα, Κανάκια, Περιστέρια, Γυάλα και Σατιρλί , όπου το νερό είναι πολύ καθαρό και διάφανο
Στα χωριά του νησιού θα βρείτε παραδείγματα της λαϊκής αρχιτεκτονικής. Η πρωτεύουσα του νησιού, είναι μια σύγχρονη πόλη που δεν λείπουν, ωστόσο οι παραδοσιακές γειτονιές. Στα Αμπελάκια μπορείτε να βρείτε την Ακρόπολη της αρχαίας Σαλαμίνας και στα Περιστέρια το σπήλαιο του Ευριπίδη, που αξίζει να επισκεφθείτε.
Υπάρχει συχνή σύνδεση με ferry boat μεταξύ Πέραμα-Παλούκια και Παχύ Μεγάρων-Φανερωμένης, αλλά και λιγότερο συχνά με μικρότερα καράβια από τον Πειραιά.
Αν δεν έχετε αυτοκίνητο, υπάρχουν 2 τρόποι να προσεγγίσετε την περιοχή της κρύπτης.
Α) Με το τρένο ή το λεωφορείο για Πειραιά. από την Πύλη Ε7 Εκεί να πάρετε το καραβάκι για Παλούκια Σαλαμίνας
Υπάρχουν 2 έως 10 καθημερινά δρομολόγια.
Β) Με τις γραμμές λεωφορείου B18 και Γ18 από την Ομόνοια για το Πέραμα. Από το Πέραμα πάρετε το Ferry ή καραβάκι για τα Παλούκια (υπάρχει σε 24ωρη σύνδεση κάθε 15 λεπτά και το ταξίδι διαρκεί 15 λεπτά).
Μόλις φτάσετε στα Παλούκια έξω από το λιμάνι είναι ο σταθμός λεωφορείων ΚΤΕΛ και ζητήστε το λεωφορείο για Κολώνες . Θα πρέπει να υπάρχουν 4-5 λεωφορεία καθημερινά .
Εάν έρχεστε με το δικό σας αυτοκίνητο θα πρέπει να χρησιμοποιήσετε μόνο την επιλογή B, δεδομένου ότι το καραβάκι από τον Πειραιά δεν παίρνει αυτοκίνητα.
Επίσης οι οδηγοί μπορείτε να παρκάρετε το αυτοκίνητό σας 600 μέτρα περίπου πριν την κρύπτη . Ο χωματόδρομος συνεχίζει μέχρι το φάρο αλλά είναι εγκαταλελειμένος και ακόμα κι αν έχετε suv ή 4wd μπορεί να βρεθείτε προ εκπλήξεως.
Η περιοχή ονομάζεται Φάρος και Όπως πλησιάζετε τις συντεταγμένες θα αντικρίσετε τον περί ου ο λόγος φάρο που πραγματικά δεσπόζει σε γή και θάλασσα.
Ο φάρος είναι ανοιχτός και μπορείτε να τον επισκεφτείτε (αν η μπρος πόρτα είναι κλειστή δοκιμάστε την πίσω πόρτα).
Το ισόγειο ουσιαστικά αποτελεί το σπίτι του φαροφύλακα (ακατοίκητο πλέον) ενώ αφού ανέβετε με προσοχή τους 2 ορόφους μπορείτε να θαυμάσετε την θέα που απολάμβανε στο παρελθόν μόνο ο φαροφύλακας. Αν πάλι διστάζετε να ανέβετε μην στενοχωριέστε η θέα είναι μοναδική και από το ισόγειο του κτηρίου.
Ίσως χρειαστεί να κάνετε λίγο σκαρφάλωμα στα τελευταία μέτρα. Γι αυτό σας παρακαλώ φορέστε άνετα παπούτσια (αθλητικά ή trekking) και πλησιάστε με προσεκτικά βήματα.
Επίσης, ίσως υπάρχουν κάποια σκουπίδια στην περιοχή, και καλό θα ήταν να έχετε μια σακούλα μαζί σας για να τα μαζέωετε .Θυμηθείτε Cache in Trash out.
Η κρύπτη είναι ένα μεσαίου μεγέθους Tupper που περιέχει μια δήλωση GEOCACHE στα αγγλικά και ελληνικά. Ημερολόγιο και στυλό και μερικά μικρά αντικείμενα για ανταλλαγή .
