Geocache Description:

Verwood adventure series loops from Potterne Park (parking available- SU09528 07536) in Verwood down to Three Legged Cross and back. The circuit is just under 6km and sections can get muddy if it has been wet for a while. The walk enters the woods from Potterne Park and travels south down to Lower Common through the horse paddocks. At Three Legged Cross the path heads north again to a final section along the road back to the start point.

This cache trail involves 3 areas of SSSI (between VA1 to VA3, VA7 toVA8 and VA9 to VA10). All 3 areas are of special interest for heathland habitats and a range of rare and scarce species, including the reptiles sand lizard and smooth snake and breeding birds, notably Dartford warbler, nightjar and woodlark. Adders also occur.

Please ensure you do not damage the special features of these sites in any way when seeking the caches. The caches are all close to paths and no vegetation needs to be interfered with to access them in any way. Any dog owners should be aware of and follow a code for responsible dog walking on heaths to avoid disturbance to wildlife.

Guidance for the protection of the SSSI sites has been kindly given by D. Kite (Conservation advisor, Natural England).

This geocache is a camoflagued, regular cliplock container about 7m off a path.
