Off Hwy 97 , on to Umity Pit Road, park at parking area, short distance to walk
Active logging on this road.
This is where you turn off the highway to start the Gold Pan City Dogsled mail Run. In the winter delivering mail right up to the 1920's along the north-south routes dog team found their place. Today this tradition is still alive in Quesnel. For the past 18 years, Thr Gold Rush Trail Dog Sled Run has taken place on the fourth weekend of January with teams of dog sleds transporting actual Royal Mail from Quesnel, BC to Wells and Barkerville BC, past the sites of seven existing or former post offices, and through existing and abondoned communities that date back to the Cariboo Gold Rush. This exercise in living history represents one of the last places in the world where mail is still transported by dog team. The Mail Run represents an opportunity for dog mushers to experience the past and for families to have fun together enjoying everything the Cariboo has to offer ion the winter. In addition to the mail run, Quesnel also hosts competitive sled dog races which have been qualifiers for the famous Alaska Iditarod and Yukon Quest. High calibre dog mushers have been attracted, not just by the competition but the incredible trails and winter snow conditions of the Quesnel area.
This has been the drop off spot for the Mail Run but logging in this area has opened the road to further down the road for starts.
