Geocache Description:

Cherry blossom stand of trees.

Each spring the D.C. area is known for its Cherry Blossom Festival which typically starts the last week of March or first week of April. The area around the Tidal Basin and Washington Monument are beautiful, but extremely crowded, often causing locals to visit other stands of cherry trees in the area during bloom. Popular areas include the National Arboretum (38.91049, -76.9603) and Kenwood, MD (38.97081, -77.10523). Unfortunately even these locations have become crowded during peak season. cherry jeferson memorial
This lesser known stand of trees lies directly on the Washington DC/Maryland line. This boundary was established between 1791 and 1792 by Andrew Ellicot under the guidance of Benjamin Banneker. The Boundary Stones of the District of Columbia site describes and maps the border and marks the two nearby boundary stones:
NE4 and NE5
