Geocache Description:

This is the second Welcome Home Cache at a wonderful piece of woods and waterfalls. You may have driven by this area many times and not known it was here! You will want to spend about an hour or more on this geocaching trip so plan accordingly. This area is all Clemson Forest lands.

This multistage (3 stage) geocache is going to challenge you a little. As usual though I have made the hides easy to find if you look at the hints. You may have driven by this little gem of a forest and creek area many times and never known it existed! This multistage will take you on a small journey so close to the developed world.

From highway 123 head down Davis Creek Road. After you cross the lake (small tributary really) and head up the hill park on the left hand side for stage I. Stage I is at what I am calling Lower Ravenel Falls. A wonderful little waterfall. You will need to cross the creek to find stage I.

Near Stage 1 is some large old trees along on old road bed. There are some 3 foot diameter and greater trees including some Beech Trees that have some whittling dating back to 1930 (see picture gallery). Beaver pond also fill the lowlands.

Stage 2 is a nice rock outcropping. You do not need to dig into the outcropping for stage 2 so take care to not do damage to this rock outcropping. Along the way to stage 2 you will see some more very large 3 foot diameter and greater trees and some wonderful water and woods!. You do not need to leave the woods to go to stage 2 so travel along the creek to enjoy this patch of forest.

Near stage 2 is Upper Ravenel Falls, another beautiful waterfall you will be heading this way anyways so go visit. You will also see 3 foot diameter Oaks, Poplars, scare up some grouse and maybe see the coyotes that roam the area.

Stage 2 gives you directions to find stage 3. You will not need to bushwack through the former clear cut if you follow the directions on Stage 2. If you bushwack through the small pines you will have a tough go of it.

Stage 3 is an old homeplace from times gone by when the farms in this area were bought up by the federal government because all the topsoil had washed away and the farms were unproductive. You do not need to search too hard for stage 3 it is not in the fireplace or IN the old foundation so you do not need to dig the foundation. Please take care to not damage this old site.
