Geocache Description:

This cache can be found at Buwenda Scout Campsite in the south of Uganda, just a few miles from Jinja, the true source of the Nile. It is one of a pair of caches set in the spring of 2010 to celebrate Nile2010, an expedition of scouts to Uganda. The second cache is in Bournemouth, UK, some 4500 miles away. Few will visit both, but you could try!

Nile2010 was dreamt up several years ago by a few scout leaders from Bournemouth, UK. Since then, £113,000 has been raised, mostly from the local community, to turn the dream into reality. Funds are still being raised. The scouts were in Uganda from late July to the end of August 2010.

Nile2010 is an expedition to Uganda involving 26 Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders from the local area. These are mostly Scouts and Explorers based at Winton Methodist Church or the Iford scout HQ. The purpose of the project is to involve our Scouts in youth work with Ugandan children, camping with and working in close conjunction with the Jinja Scout District and working on local development projects.

The main task is providing a vocational training centre near the camp site. It will help street children (many children have been orphaned by wars in the north and HIV) to gain skills in building and allied trades, which they can use for their own livelihood, but also take back to their communities for the benefit of others. The scouts left all their camping equipment behind for the benefit of other Scouts in the future. You can find out more about Nile2010 by visiting www.nile2010.co.uk

The cache is a small cache inside the campsite. It will be maintained by the camp warden, a member of the Jinja Scouts.
