Geocache Description:

First State Challenge 2010- Dover - hidden by Millennium Mom

Delaware Geocachers logo

The Delaware Challenge is back: First State Challenge 2010 sponsored by Delaware Geocachers! There are 22 new caches spread across the state of Delaware by volunteer cachers to give you an appreciation for the great areas of the First State. We are spotlighting New Castle County this year. These should all be fairly easy to find as they are either small or regular size with a maximum rating of 2/2. To complete this challenge and be eligible for a Pathtag & certificate at the challenge event, you must complete the following:

1. You must find and log ALL 22 caches- both at the cache location and online. Record the code phrase written in the log book of each hide and email your completed list of all 22 code phrases to FirstStateChallenge@gmail.com.
2. For your convenience, there is a form on the Delaware Geocaching Website at
First State Challenge 2010 - Form although the use of this form is not required.
3. There will be a Challenge Event (more details later) open to all cachers. At this event, those that have been verified as completing the challenge, will be eligible for the following:
       Completion certificate
       Challenge Pathtag (limited)
4. Pathtags are limited to the first 100 cachers who complete the challenge.
5. More information can be found on the Delaware Geocachers Forum at First State Challenge 2010

Spence's Bazaar- Dover

Location

Spence’s Bazaar, a Dover icon, celebrated its 75th year of operation in 2009. It is a flea market and auction that started out as an auction for livestock and horses. It is located in the big red barn between New Street and Queen Street. In the year 2000, Spence's giant red barn burned to the ground but the grandson and granddaughters of this market's founder rebuilt the structure. Despite being rebuilt there is still a traditional feel to the commerce here even though it is in the heart of the downtown area of this state's capital city.

A popular community bazaar, this enclosed auction and flea market features a variety of products including fresh produce from area farmers and great food from the Amish community. On a busy summer day there are about 150 vendors at Spence's Bazaar.

“The Sale” as it is commonly referred to by the locals is open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30am until about 3pm.

Cache Details

Finding the cache on days when Spence’s is open may be tricky with many muggles around. Street parking is available and there is a small parking area right near the cache, but it may not be accessible when the business is open. Permission has been granted to place this cache.
