In dieser tragischen Nacht kehrten 4 Flugzeuge nicht mehr in Ihre Heimat zurück. Eines der Flugzeuge erreichte nicht einmal den Einsatzort. Hauptziele des Angriffs waren ... und ... . Vermutlich wurde "Charlie" von einem 'ME 109'-Nachtjäger getroffen und ging brennend, in einer spiralförmigen Schlaufe, über dem nord-westlichen Kaisertuhl nieder.

Man geht davon aus, das die gesamte Bombenlast noch an Bord war, denn es kam zu einer verheerenden Explosion beim Aufprall des Flugzeugs. Das nahegelegene Dorf entging nur knapp einer Katastrophe. Von den Dorfbewohnern kam wie durch ein Wunder niemand ernsthaft zu Schaden. Aber zahlreiche Fenster gingen zu Bruch und Dächer wurden teilweise abgedeckt.

Von der D-köpfigen Besatzung des Flugzeugs überlebte nur der Bombenschütze. Er konnte sich als einziger mit dem Fallschirm retten. Der Offizier William Chadwick verbrachte den Rest des Krieges im Gefangenenlager „Stalag LUFT III“ in Sagan/Niederschlesien. Er kehrte spätestens am 11. Mai 1945 wieder in seine Heimat zurück.

Die übrigen Besatzungsmitglieder fanden Ihre (vorerst) letzte Ruhestätte auf dem Friedhof des besagten Dorfes. Im August 1948 wurden die Gebeine der gefallenen Krieger umgebettet. Sie ruhen jetzt auf dem Commonwealth Soldatenfriedhof bei Dürnbach am Tegernsee.

At this tragic night 4 aircrafts did not return any more to their native country. One of the planes had not even reached the target place. Principal aims of attack were ... and ... . "Charlie" was presumably hit by a 'ME 109 '- night hunter and crashed down burning, in a spiral like loop, over the North-West Kaisertuhl.

One goes out from the fact which was that the whole bomb load was still aboard. Because it came to a disastrous explosion with the impact of the airplane. The nearby village was close by a disaster. Like a miracle, from the villagers nobody seriously came to damage. But numerous windows got broken and roofs were partially uncovered.

Of the D-headed troop from the aircraft only the bomb targeter survived. He could escape as only with the parachute. The officer William Chadwick spent the rest of the war in the prison camp „Stalag AIR III“ in Sagan/Niederschlesien. He returned at the latest on the 11th of May, 1945 again to his native country.

The remaining crew members found their place of last rest (for the meantime) on the cemetery of the aforesaid village. In August, 1948 the skeletons of the fallen warriors were put into another cemetery. Now they rest on the Commonwealth soldier's cemetery near Dürnbach/Tegernsee.
