Minnesota Geocaching Association

Welcome to the 2010

Nerstrand-Big Woods State Park on Saturday May 22nd.

Who:

This event is open to the general public. You do NOT have to be a member of the MnGCA to attend this event. Veteran geocachers, newbie geocachers and people who just want to learn what geocaching is about are all welcome. Geocaching is a family orientated activity and so is this event. Bring the kids!

What:

A social event with lunch and geocaching activities. We will have prizes, Kid caches and more activities listed below! There are already 6 permanent caches in the park including: Nerstrand’s Big Woods State Park Wildlife Safari

When:

Saturday, May 22, 2010

9:30AM to 5:00PM

Where:

Nerstrand-Big Woods Park, located 60 miles south of Minneapolis just east of 35W. About a 45 minute to 1 ½ hour drive from the Twin Cities area depending on where you live.

Nerstrand is a very beautiful State Park with over 11 miles of hiking trails through 1,280 acres of old growth hardwood forest. This is one of the last large stands of native hardwoods left in Southern Minnesota. Before the arrival of Pioneer settlers to this area in the 1850’s this was called the “Big Woods”, stretching 80 miles long by 40 miles wide these woods once covered over 2 million acres. The park is most famous for its spring wildflowers and we hope to have a nice display to view along the trails at the spring event!

How Much:

If you have an annual state park pass, nothing.

If not, the parking fee is $5.

The MnGCA will provide burgers, hot dogs and bratwurst free of charge, but would appreciate if folks are willing to bring a potluck food offering to share. See more below!

Why:

To have Fun! To meet our old geocaching friends and make new ones. To share our passion for geocaching and help teach anyone who is interested in joining us. To enjoy the outdoors, get some fresh air and exercise and maybe find a cache or three.
