Geocache Description:

Firefighter Cache #1 (HQ)

This is the third in the series of firefighter caches that are being released in the Juneau area. Although this is the third, we refer to it as #1 because this is Station 1 under Capitol City Fire/Rescue. The Juneau Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1887 by a group of citizens in the town of Juneau, a year later the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department was organized. The first alarm system was a large bell located at 4th and main street downtown at the original fire station, and the motto of the fire department was “You ring the bell we do the rest.” That bell currently sits in front of station 1. The downtown station is home to the administrative staff and is manned by a crew of 4 firefighters/EMTs 24 hours a day. Station 1 responds to over 1000 calls a year. Stealth is going to be called for. This is a small cache and originally contained the log, pencil, and a travel bug.
