This cache is not located at the above coordinates. They are for
parking only. The cache is located at N41 18.1AB, W072 16.9YZ. To
determine the value of AB in the North coordinate you will need to
view a speed limit sign in Udall, Kansas on South Blankenship Rd
just passed the intersection with West 1st Street heading south.
There is a two digit number on that sign. Subtract 17 from the
number and this will be the value of AB in the North coordinate.
Once you have found the value for AB, drive North on Blankenship
Road three blocks until the intersection with Kansas Route 55. Turn
left onto Route 55 and almost immediately on the right there is
another speed limit sign with a two digit number. Add 5 to this
number and this will be the value of YZ in the West coordinate. The
shortest driving route from Connecticut to Udall is about 1500
miles.
Udall, Kansas is located in the southeast part of the state near
Wichita. It has a population of about 900. My Grandfather lived
there until he died in 1996 at the age of 100. On May 25, 1955
Udall was struck without warning by an F5 tornado from the south at
10:35 PM. The town was completely destroyed, killing 77 people and
injuring 270. One of the deadliest tornadoes to ever strike in the
United States. If you chose to drive there, you can view an
interesting historical museum about the town and tornado. There is
another way to view the signs which will save you a lot of time and
gas. Your job is to figure that out. Once you have the coordinates,
you will looking for a traditional cache. Park at the listed
coordinates next to the mailbox at 191 Mile Creek Road in Old Lyme.
Good luck and have fun.
