Geocache Description:

Former police lock up.

This historic Ophir building was returned to the village in December 2002, having been moved to Omakau in 1947, where it was used as a sleepout.
Several thousand dollars and much volunteer effort has already gone into removing the roughcast from it's kauri exterior and repainting the building in the original colours.
Take time to look inside at the 2 holding cells complete with heavy wooden doors, steel bolts and peepholes.
If the old building could talk, there would be some interesting stories explaning it's early use and the crimes that resulted in unenviable "night in the slammer".

The cache is in a 350ml plastic screw top container with log book pencils and several small swaps.
