Geocache Description:

The Bremer family has given permision to have this cache put out on this property.
History of Bourbon and how the town got its name.

If you have time, please stop in at the Bremer Hardware Store and say Hi to Alice.

The town of Bourbon was a wide spot in the road along the rails when the railroad was being built in through MO in 1853. Some of the rail workers at the end of the day would say to fellow workers "let go get some bourbon from turners store". Since there were no names on the store but the label BOURBON on the barrol of liquor setting in front of the store they started calling it the bourbon place. Then they just shortened it to Bourbon. At the time of the railroad there was only a couple of small shops and a few houses.
In 1916 Bremers built there first store to serve the local town. Then on April 19, 1924 the KKK came in trying to get suport for there cause. When Bremers refused they burned his store down along with the Roller Mill and the Methodist Church. How ever the fire would not stop the Bremer family and they rebuilt. Bremers is one of the towns thriving business thanks to determanation and hard work. The store is still owned and operated by the Bremer family and has 4 generations working there today.
