The Royal Canal crosses through extensive peatlands in the midlands, specifically in counties Westmeath and Longford before reaching the Shannon in Clondra, County Longford.
This cache is near the Westmeath/Longford border where the Royal Canal was built through Ballymaglavy bog c. 1814. It is located on what is surely one of the most remote and peaceful sections of the Royal Canal.
Along the way to the cache, you will come to Bog Bridge. This bridge remains a mystery. It stands alone in the middle of Ballymaglavy bog, seemingly without a purpose. Have a look and see what you think!
The distance from the parking co-ordinates to the cache is 0.8 miles. This is the nearest public road to the cache. The towpath may become muddy in wet weather, so a good pair of boots would then be advised.
You wont need to do any bushwhacking to find the cache.
As this cache was hidden on 8th March 2010, it may have been the millionth cache hidden, who knows!
