This cache has been archived.

cdparker1: Thank you to all who helped: pointofthejourney, phillandlindzi, Highland Ranger, Highland Honey for their before, during, and after help! It has always been and always will be appreciated.

Thank you for all that attended!

Thank you pointofthejourney for the coin donations.

The winners of the two geocoins donated by POTJ were: phillandlindzi and Brianna from the chippup gang! phillandlindzi received their coin and I hope to hand deliver the other to chippup in the near future.

Another thank you to the Columbia Land Conservancy for again assisting us in clearing the way to host the event at a property that they overlook.

We hope to see all of you next year at another property for some egg hunting, cache hunting, and general good times. Next year's event will be AFTER my birthday instead of on it so that should hopefully give us a less windy and warmer day! Lets cross our fingers!!

Geocache Description:

Easter Egg Event of 2010

It is time again for some Spring fun!! Come join us and other cachers for an Easter Egg hunt at the Greenport Conservation Area in Greenport/Hudson, NY. Find some eggs, find some caches, and find some friends (or make new ones) as you and/or your children look for eggs spread throughout the preserve.

Prizes for found eggs will include candy, toys, geo-items, and other items yet to be determined. Drinks and snacks will be made available. If you want to bring something to share, then please post it so others will know. If you would like to contribute items to be given away, then please contact me.

Bring your friends, bring your children, bring your pets and bring yourselves! It would also be wise to bring the bug repellant and some tweezers as some of us discovered ticks, not geocoins, on our clothing at last year’s event! YUCK!!

Last year’s event went pretty well and we had some really nice weather. Let us hope this year’s event follows suit!

Hope to see you there!!

Joyce Carroll, Public Lands Coordinator for the Columbia Land Conservancy, has given us the go-ahead to have this year's event hosted at one of the properties that the CLC manages for the Open Space Institute. “The Greenport Conservation Area is a 714-acre property along the Hudson River, and includes upland meadows, deciduous forests, and an estuarine wetland. The Conservation Area is owned by the Open Space Institute and managed by the Columbia Land Conservancy.

The site is open to the public and contains four miles of trails that meander through open fields, deciduous forests and dense cedar groves. Along the trails, visitors can stop for a picnic at the gazebo, overlook bench or picnic shelter and can admire spectacular views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains beyond.

"Access for All" Trail

The “Access for All” trail is the first of its kind along the Hudson River. Funded by the Hudson River Foundation’s Catskill-Olana Viewshed Mitigation Fund, the one-mile trail has a a firm and stable surface, allowing visitors in wheelchairs access to bluffs overlooking the Hudson River. In addition the trailhead, gazebo and picnic shelter overlooks have been paved with natural stone, providing durability and accessibility to these popular destinations.

New signs installed at the kiosk and along the bluff overlooking the river were specifically designed for the visually impaired. A trail map with Braille text has been installed at the entrance, where visitors can also pickup a large-print version of the trail guide for the accessible trail. Two additional interpretative signs are located on the bluffs overlooking the Hudson. One of the signs gives a brief overview of the cultural and natural history of the river and surrounding area. The second is a three-dimensional representation of the view.”

The most exciting news for this year’s Easter Egg Event is that it will be handicap accessible. A portion of the hides will be sequestered away just for those that would like to join in the fun but may have a harder time getting around a traditional conservation area.

This event will take place from 9am-2pm unless otherwise changed.

Back by popular demand!

For some extra stuff for the kids to do, we have decided to bring along some hard-boiled eggs for the kids to color. Big kids are welcome to color the eggs as well!!
