Let's Go Camping in
Staffs is being held the weekend of Friday to Sunday 21st - 23rd
May 2010 at Sheldon Farm, Grindon Moor,
near Leek in Staffordshire. Geo-Campers are welcome to
arrive earlier, or stay later than these dates.
Sheldon Farm is
located approximately 8 miles from Leek, and for those not wanting
to cache, Alton Towers is a mere 7 miles (20 mins) away! (Remember
to pre book, as you get your admission MUCH cheaper!)
There are supermarkets located in Leek (waypointed below) and a
little village shop in nearby Butterton.
Although the
campsite's postal address is in Staffs, it is JUST within the Peak
District National Park, and is in an enviable location, high up on
Grindon Moor.
BE WARNED!!!! This beautiful location also means
that it is open to the elements - and the elements hit hard here!
When it's windy - boy, it's windy - so remember to pack extra
pegs!
Campers are well
catered for at this lovely site, with several fields to choose
from. We will mainly be in the tent field just through from the
electrical hook up field. There are holiday cottages on the farm,
so if you would like the telephone number of the site, please
message me through my profile and I will put you in touch with the
farmer.
The fields are well
drained (thanks to the new drainage system!) and level. There are
hardstandings available for campervans, pitches with hookups and
bog standard pitches for the more hardy among us!
There are plenty of
hookups, but these will be allocated on a first come, first served
basis.
To book a pitch, please make your intentions known
on this page, telling me what nights you will be staying at the
site, what type of accommodation you will be staying in, and
whether you would like electric hook up. I will then make a weekly
report to the campsite owners and book you in!
I am in the process
of negotiating the camping fees, but whatever they will be, they
are very reasonable.
Day Visitors will be
very welcome on the Saturday Evening from 4pm onwards, when we will
have our usual cache story swapping and get together. I will, of
course, be running the now obligatory scavenger hunt for kiddies
(and some adults) of all ages, so get creative!!! I have some great
prizes on offer this year!
Put this page onto your watchlist and I will update it
whenever I have more information!
UPDATE:
Costs are: For those with an Electric Hook up Pitch: £13 for 2
people per night, extra adults are £4 per night, and children £2
per night (between 5-12, under 5 are free.)
Bog standard grass pitch (without Hook up!!) is £4 per person, per
night.
No charge for awnings or dogs.
