The Heins Farm trails need a bit of cleaning after the winter months. The Sturbridge Trails Committee is scheduling a trails workday on Saturday April 17,2010. What better way to show our appreciation for the generous public trails access than by pitching in for a few hours of maintenance.
Registration starts at 8:30am. and we get started at 9:00am. and go until about 12:00 noon. We will meet at the Heins Farm / Leadmine Mountain trail head parking lot.
The preliminary projects list for the upcoming work day on Heins:
1. Swale construction and gravel on Stafford Turnpike Trail North side.
2. Root and rock clearing on new cut off trail on Stafford Turnpike Trail North side South of Cabin Loop Trail.
3. Block off Hill on Stafford Turnpike Trail North side between Cabin Loop Trail and Culvert Where the trail was relocated.
4.Clear roots and Rocks on Stafford Turnpike Trail South side where grading work was done last fall.
5.Clear roots and Rocks on Stafford Turnpike Trail South side from new grading work to field.
6.Possible need for gravel on Stafford Turnpike Trail South side where trail enters the field.
7. Clear dead fall on Pond loop bench extension.
8.Clear roots on Pond Loop Trail West side.
9.Trim branches on Stafford Turnpike Trail South side.
10.Kiosk repair.
Anyone with loppers,pruners.metal rakes,please bring them along as well as a good pair of working gloves.. The Conservation Committee is looking for a tractor or small trailer to transport gravel and sand from the parking area to the trail as a truck won't fit in where needed. Please contact me if you have the means to help with that task.
