This cache is located in a lovely park in the Beechmont area of the hinterland behind the Gold Coast. There are two lovely memorials to the Anzacs and soldiers who've fought to safeguard our freedom. We wanted to place a cache here as it's a nice place to reflect on our good fortune to be able to live free here in this great country of ours, and somewhere also to give thanks and remember the lives of those lost in previous wars. With grateful thanks to the cachers Agent1958 I have the following information which is very interesting: During WWII the Beechmont community supported 2 of its sons leaving for battle by buying them gold watches to take with them. Each was inscribed "From the Beechmont Community". Both young men had the same initials KS (Nell Scott's nephew- Keith Scott and Kent Summerville). Both (sadly) were killed in action (Keith 13.08.44 and Kent 1942). To honour their memory stained glass windows were designed for placement in the small Presbyterian church near the school (now a house). When the church was sold off, the beautiful windows were retrieved and stored and eventually they were placed in the memorial at Graceleigh Park, just west of the park. I do not remember the year, but the Courier Mail printed the story of how when Keith was shot down a small French boy stole the watch from his body and hid it. However many years later, when that French man died, his family found the watch in his belongings and read the inscription, and it was returned to his mother Elsie". *Note*: See also the information on the cache page for 'Nell Scott'. Take a few minutes to reflect on these things and then quietly find the cache. Watch out for muggles please! And place back so the cache can't be seen. Thank you. FOUR TRIKI SEEKERS took FTF honours for this cache. Congratulations!
