This cache has been archived.

poundsonwood: Went by here today, and alas the lot has been bulldozed. Nothing left to find. I am archiving and will not replace. Thanks to all who played this one.

Geocache Description:

This cache has an historical theme. The cache site is adjacent to the former location of Skateland Roller Skating rink. Skateland served the Whittier area for 51 years, and my children often spent time there with friends and family. It was good clean fun and exercise for children of all ages. Skateland closed in 2006. Some thought this was because business was slow, but in fact it was forced to close because the EPA declared the land posed a threat to occupants of the building. An adjacent business, Omega Chemicals, was responsible for releasing toxins into the ground. Skateland was forced to sell the property to a party responsible for the cleanup, and economics did not allow Skateland to relocate. The building has been demolished and the lot is fenced, so the cache is on the neighboring lot, which has it's own history for another day. Will actual cleanup of the toxins ever happen? Beats me.

The cache is a mint tin and contains a log only. Feel free to add whatever SWAG will fit. A George Washington goes to the FTF. I saw nothing to prevent you from driving right up to this cache. But your tires may suffer. Muggles will be a problem.

Kudos to drain13 for another FTF! Yeah!
