Geocache Description:

Time for another trip to the Abandoned Turnpike. Since last year's trip ended with a bloody leg and a banged up car, this year's trip will be by foot or bike.

The day will begin at 9:00 A.M. sharp at the Denny's in Breezewood where we will have the initial meet and greet to discuss geocaching and other miscellaneous topics. Credit for this cache can be attained by attending the Hike/Bike or the breakfast or both.

Upon the conclusion of breakfast we will be making the short trek to the bottom of the hill for the Abandoned Turnpike. From here the trek down the Abandoned Turnpike begins, and ends when we all make it back safely. Nobody will be left behind (kind of like what I almost did last year... LOL). Whether by pedal or by foot, a great time will be had by all.

There are several geocaches along the trail. Some are a real pain others are not as much. Please keep this in mind if you are attempting these caches.

UPDATE 7/26/10:

I have received several questions regarding how the bike or hike will work. When we finish breakfast, we, as a group will head out to the abandoned turnpike parking. From there, those on bike will take off while those of us hiking will start the hike.

The ones hiking will hike out to the Rays Hill Tunnel and then from there will decide whether to hike out to Sideling Hill or to return to the cars and drive to the other end where the old rest stop resides and hike from there to Sideling Hill (much shorter hike, which is good because to get all four of the ATP caches, there will be a 2+ mile hike through Sideling Hill). The bike ride takes roughly 3 hours. The hike should take about 3 and a half, depending if we do the car-thing or not. If not, I anticipate round trip will take about 6 hours. Bring comfortable shoes. Hiking boots are not required.

Also, the thought has come to me of placing a commemorative event cache somewhere along the trail as well. If anyone has any ideas, bring them along as well.
