Geocache Description:

What is Letterboxing?

The best place to learn about Letterboxing is to visit Letterboxing North America. This document in particular will help explain what Letterboxing is, how to find a Letterbox, and some etiquette to follow.

Letterboxing in Okinawa

Letterboxing isn't as popular as traditional Geocaching in Okinawa. However, I hope that once you've found this cache, you may become inspired to create a letterbox of your own. If you're interested in what sparked my interest in creating this letterbox, then why not take a trip to the other side of Okinawa and find The Muggle's Box.

Enough Talk, On to the Letterbox

Grab your compass and head to the listed coordinates.

  • Starting at GZ, follow 160° AZ to the center of the pen.
  • Travel along 150° AZ. Remember, dead men tell no tails.
  • Walk up to the center of the bridge.
  • From the bridge, travel along 60° AZ and look-out for some stone benches.
  • Stand on the center bench and then head out along 160° AZ making sure to pass through the wooden stakes.
  • After passing through the stakes, change direction to 100° and continue along the path until you find a place to sit down.
  • Have a seat. You're almost there. Once you've rested head out along 200° AZ till you reach the next junction.
  • Now look for what's hidden between earth and stone.

What you'll find

Inside the cache, you'll find a log book along with an ink pad, an eraser that has been carved as the letterbox stamp, and a blue rubber pad.

Use the blue rubber pad by placing it under the page you wish to stamp. This will help to prevent the ink from bleeding through to the other pages. Stamp the cache's log book with your personalized stamp that you have brought with you (if you don't have a stamp, please draw a unique icon as your stamp). Then stamp your own log with the cache's stamp. Please take care as this stamp is a bit fragile since it is an eraser.

Good Luck!

Congrats to Dawgdoc for the FTF.

Please follow the four L's:
  1. Look - look around before making the grab. Make sure there are no muggles taking notice of what you're doing and please make sure that your actions do not make you look suspicious.
  2. Listen - keep an ear open for anyone approaching you and also be aware of the sounds you are making when going for the find.
  3. Log - be considerate and log your find in the log book at the cache as well as on the cache page. Please also log whatever you take or leave in the cache.
  4. Leave - leave quietly and no trace of your being there. Replace the cache back in the spot where you found it to avoid the cache from being muggled.
