Pocono Geocachers' CITO on 191: 5 Year Anniversary Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

unimoggers: Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who helped clean up our adopted highway. It's been five long years since we did the adoption, but you wouldn't know it by the number of bags of trash we collected. We'll be back in a year or so, so see you then! (I've said that before and it was five years before we made it back, eh?)
I guess everyone has logged so I'm archiving it just so it doesn't show up on searches, etc. I still have to log it myself!

Geocache Description:

It's been five long years since we officially cleaned up our adopted highway along 191. The route is easy... lots of yards and small businesses. We will meet at Clearview Elementary School's parking lot and split the group there. Half will taxi down to the south end at route 611 and work their way north while the Clearview school group will work in the opposite direction and side of the street.

The Eighth Annual International Cache In Trash Out Day is on April 24-25, 2010. In honor of the event we will be tidying up our two mile portion of 191 in northeastern Pennsylvania on Saturday with the following Saturday (May 1) as a rain date. The highway runs nicely through Stroudsburg.

Come help clean up the area and then enjoy refreshments at a place TBD based on our RSVPs. We are also planning a little caching adventure. The fun starts at 10:00am, when we meet at the coordinates for Clearview school.

Travel bugs are welcome! Check back at this site as April 24 approaches, as we will post updates. And sign up early so we can provide the Adopt-A-Highway folks some idea of the number of safety vests and gloves to bring. I'll need to know the number of children and adults in your group.

The Program is simple . . .
Five years ago we signed a two-year agreement with PennDOT to adopt a two mile portion of state highway 191 and promised to pick up litter at least four times a year. In return, PennDOT posted signs (which took two years) on each end of our adopted highway.

Your safety is important . . .
PennDOT will provide complete safety training for volunteers as well as orange safety vests and highway warning signs to be used during litter pick-ups. The Department also provides trash bags and will pick-up the bagged litter from the roadside. Volunteers must be at least eight years old, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by adults. The MiniMoggers are finally old enough (MiniMoggerTwo will be almost 8)...

Our rain date will be Saturday, May 1, 10 am to 12 pm. We sure hope to see you there!
