Bleaberry Fell
I can’t pretend I’ve even been up Bleaberry Fell annually but it has been a favourite because it’s the termination of a long ridge – the boggiest in Lakeland? – and is dry compared to what’s gone before. Moreover in crowded Lakeland it’s deserted.
Until last New Year’s Eve when with snow over half a metre deep soft on top and ice down below it seemed that it was the only place where visitors to Keswick could go. No time to lay a cache – so I went back up on a glorious winters day with bogs frozen and laid one despite the presence of a dozen or so walkers – it seems that there are now a couple of leaflets describing walks up here.
You can use them or read the esteemed Mr Wainright. I start from Thirlmere dam – a lovely way though possibly I only think so because it’s more convenient for me – and there’s a free car park. There are other caches you can pick up on the various routes in this neck of the woods.
The cache is immediately beyond the cairn after the summit cairn going on to High Seat. It is not in the cairn itself. It's a small lock-top box.
