Geocache Description:

Carrar House was built between 1830 - 1858 and designed by John F Hilly. It was another one of William Charles Wentworths properties and became part of the marriage proposal for his daughter Thomasine.

It boasts one of the finest harbor side parks in Sydney and is the grandest intact example of Italianate Mansions in its original landscape.

Over the years it’s been a grand formal residence, health care facility and old people’s home. Today it stands empty with some picnic tables under shady tree perfect for a geocachers lunch.

Take the time to wander and explore the grounds, and on a hot day bring the swimmers for a dip at Milk beach. The house is only open to the public during heritage week.

If you want to learn more about the Wentworths try my other caches "The Kitchen Garden" and "Wentworths Cliff" which are both close by.
