Geocache Description:

A micro hide testing your use of your GPSr. The co-ordinates above are for parking at the start of the hunt, not the cache site itself.

Wynyard Hall was officially opened in 1822 and was the seat of the Marquess of Londonderry. Recognised as one of the finest mansion houses it was visited by many influential personages including royalty and, in 1827, the Duke of Wellington. His first visit is commemorated by the 127 foot obelisk that stands in the hall’s parkland today.

At the end of the 20th century the hall and the estate was bought by Sir John Hall who has extensively developed both.

The Wellington Obelisk is not accessible for casual visits from geocachers but it is situated at N 54° 37.294' W 001° 20.750'.

Park at N 54° 37.972' W 001° 20.471.

The cache is placed on a bearing of 26° and at a distance of 1560 yards from the Wellington obelisk. As you walk to the cache site you will pass 2 modern reflections of the original structure.

When you have found the cache, you may wish to ascend to a further obelisk at N 54° 38.052' W 001° 20.162' from where you will have a view to the original.
