Rock around Redcar Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Workyticket: As there appears to have been no response from the CO we are archiving this cache listing to prevent it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements in the area. Once a cache is archived for non-responsiveness (including the cache page) it can't be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

The above co-ords are for the proposed parking near to Tuned In. At the moment it is free for 4 hours, but please check signage as this may change as the area develops. Along the prom it is 60 pence an hour. There is a large pay and display car park a little further along. Allow 1-2 hours if you like to stroll rather than dash.

The early name for Redcar is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word for reed, 'hreod' and the Scandinavian word for marsh, 'Kjar' thus the place name was an area of reedy marshland. Redcar was originally a fishing village mentioned around 1300AD. It traded with the much larger market town of Coatham. In the later part of the 19th century, Redcar became a popular leisure resort for the growing industrial population of Teesside as the iron and steel industry expanded. Later ICI, also a huge employer, helped expand the area further making it a top holiday destination in the 1950s. The large industries have now declined, with the mothballing of Corus taking place in the early part of 2010. I grew up here and worked on the beach during vacations for 15 years when everyday, variety shows, Punch and Judy, donkeys and train rides were the norm. The beach used to get packed with deck chairs and tents loaned out by the local council. This cache reflects some of the many interesting historical features of the town.

The area for the final co -ordinates had become derelict and so not a pleasant place to search. I have moved the final, whilst trying to keep to the location. Unfortunately, the final is not a swag cache due to this and surrounding caches limiting hiding places. Hopefully, as the location is redeveloped, suitable places will become available.
