In the summer of 1989 a group of students from across BC made their home at Snass Creek, in the parking lot of the Cascade Rec area, while clearing the historic Dewdney Trail and the Skagit Bluffs Trail. This was Base Camp and from here we worked on the Skagit Bluffs Trail. The Dewdney trail was cleared up to Paradise Valley and we camped in 3 mobile camps along the Dewdney while we worked on it. Supplies were carried up to these camps by horses from MPR stables. It was a great summer and some of us are still in contact with one another. This cache series is a tribute to that summer. I hope a few of the Rangers gather these caches as a trip down memory lane.
Every Sunday the Junior Rangers traveled from Manning Park to Hope. We did our laundry here, bought groceries for mobile camp and mailed letters home. After the laundry and shopping were finished we enjoyed what the town had to offer. Some of us played basketball, we would swim at Lake of the Woods and Kawkawa Lake, we walked at the tunnels and a few times we came to town to watch a movie. Hope provided us with some much needed civilization after sleeping in a tent all week.
