Koppler Moor
Am Ende der 3. und 4. Eiszeit schoben bis zu 880 m mächtige
Gletscherzungen ein Gewirr von Schotterwällen im Raum Koppl
zusammen.
So
dick.
Torf enthält so gut wie keine Nährstoffe. Nur Wasser, Luft sowie
pflanzliche (Pollen, Sporen) und tierische (Kot, Kadaver)
Rückstände bieten daher Pflanzen ein Auskommen, was natürlich deren

Koppler moorland
At the end of the 3rd and 4th ice age powerful, up to 880m big,
glacier tongues pushed up a tangle of brashwalls in the area of
Koppl. Between these, terminal moraines and the slopes of the
Nocksteins and the Gaisberg flat seas were formed in the
consequence which were overgrown by white peat. Over the years this
layer sank to the ground and hermetically sealed was transformed to
peat. Thus each year a 0.5mm to 1mm thick peat layer developed. At
the deepest places the peat body of the Koopler moorland is more
than 2m thick.
Peat contains hardly any nutrients. Only water, air and
vegetable (pollen, spores) and animal (excrement, cadavers)
residues offer plants a livelihood, which naturally limits their
variety substantially.
Thus moorlands exhibit a special flora and fauna. Unfortunately
today the whole thing looks differently, after the Koppler moorland
only exists of a few hundred square meters genuine moorland.
