Under Penshaw's Shadow (Re-Done) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,
DalesmanX

Geocache Description:

This cache was my First ever cache. Dezi did a great job with this one and since it was such a memorable cache, I decided to recreate this now that Dezi is gone. I take NO credit for the cache, It was all Dezi! Everything is the same as the cache before it was archived but now all those finders can find it again!

Easy walk around Country Park & Lakes - between 2.5 & 3 miles depending on route taken.

Herrington Country Park opened in July 2002 after 4 years of reclamation work and a further 2 years of landscaping – covering approx 200 hectares it once was the Herrington Colliery Pit Heap. Just off the A183 opposite Penshaw Monument – park at N54 52.696 W001 28.838 to begin in the right place. With 10km of walkways & cycleways, and viewpoints across Co.Durham it’s a great place to explore and is a favourite place for cyclists with smooth, clear pathways.
The Park is also the venue for various events such as the County Durham Show and the NE Motor Show, accommodating 77,000 visitors one weekend so you get some idea of scale.

Work is currently underway to color-code various footpaths, finish the skateboard park and construct a toilet block so there is currently the odd piece of machinery about but nothing too distracting.

The wildlife areas are developing well and Wildlife Refuge Areas are clearly signposted. (Dog owners are requested to keep their pets under close control in these areas)

The cache is a small Tupperware box with usual selection of goodies (and £1 coin for first finder’s chocolate reward). However you will need to visit each of these co-ordinates in the park to answer the questions and then use the information gathered to calculate the final cache co-ordinates (each set of co-ordinates relate to a prominent feature).

(A) N54 52.753 W001 28.816 > How many letters spell this colour?

(B) N54 52.637 W001 28.583 > How many vertical supports on the middle steps hand-rail ?

(C) N54 52.543 W001 28.531 > How many rings do you walk through to cross the stream ?

(D) N54 52.352 W001 28.218 > What is the end date in the memorial garden ?

(E) N54 52.352 W001 28.218 > What is the total number of spokes in the 2 wheels ?

(F) N54 52.492 W001 28.366 > How far is it to Penshaw Hill from it’s viewing post ?

(G) N54 52.514 W001 28.005 > How many faces are on the rock ?

(H) N54 52.622 W001 28.061 > How many rain splashes (circles) are beside the paper boat (complete AND incomplete) ?

Now you have enough information to calculate the final co-ordinates which are at

N54 52.RST W001 27.XYZ

R = answer to C
S = answer to A
T = end digit of the end year found at D minus 5
X = answer to E MINUS answer to G
Y = answer to B MINUS answer to H
Z = answer to F

Final cache location is under tree cover so suggest you take the hint (just incase).

Please could you make sure the cache is fully closed when you put it back.
