You are FIRST looking
for a signpost.
This signpost is
EXACTLY at the posted coordinates. This post was set at the listed
coordinates with a Trimble R8 Global Positioning System receiver,
operating in Real Time Kinematic mode (RTK). After locating the
post, use these coordinates to compare with the reading of your
personal GPSr at this point.

Even with the most
current GPSr units, any two will rarely agree on an EXACT location.
Even units of the same make and model, or a single unit at a
different time and under different conditions, will
disagree.
It is also the first stop on the Oxley Nature
Center Geo Skills Trail!
Lesson #1 of the Geo Skills
Trail: GPSr accuracy is only part of the
puzzle. A good general
rule is when you get within 20 to 30 feet of “Ground
Zero” (the posted coordinates) it’s time to look up and
take a look around. In
this case your target is clearly marked, but that is not the end of
your journey.
And why not start
with a good Mystery cache? For more on Mystery or Puzzle
Caches check out the Cache
Guidelines. This
is not a traditional puzzle cache. It is more of a two-step multi
with an accuracy check requirement. Oh and it is locked.
If you like puzzle solving check out the
La Mesa cache nearby.
To log this
cache:
- You must first find
it! Examine the
Accuracy Post very carefully. You are looking for two items. The
first is the coordinates for the actual cache container. The second
is the 3 digit combination you will need to open the
cache.
- After successfully
finding and opening the cache, log your visit. Along with your names and the
date, please include the time of day, sky conditions, the make and
model of the GPSr you used and what bearing and how many feet from
ground zero it read from the Accuracy Post. Feel free to include this
information in your online log also, but no photos or spoiler
information of the final cache please.
About the Geo Skills
Trail:
This trail is a joint effort between the Oxley Nature Center and
Tulsa Area Geocachers. The
caches along the trail provide a variety of cache types, sizes and
styles to help educate and introduce the hobby of Geocaching to new
cachers. And of course, these caches will be fun for veteran
cachers as well. And who doesn't enjoy a nice walk in the woods?
While hiking the trail please be sure to practice CITO (Cache in,
Trash out). TAG has adopted the North
Woods Loop trail as a service project to thank Oxley Nature
Center and Tulsa Parks for allowing and encouraging Geocaching in
the parks system. As your personal CITO of the trail is part of
this service, please be sure to post your experiences along the
trail in one of your logs.
Besides the 8 designated Geo Skills Trail caches, there are also
several other caches in the trail system, including an Earthcache,
Puzzle Cache and several traditional caches, and many more
throughout Mohawk Park. Enjoy your walk and be sure to take time to
observe the nature all about you.
Remember, Mohawk Park's
gates open at 7 am and close at 9 pm! On weekends, April 1 -
October 31, you'll need to bring $2/vehicle to enter Mohawk Park,
unless you are a member of Friends of Oxley Nature Center or Zoo
Friends. Pets are not allowed on the Nature Center trails, but
leashed ones can enjoy other parts of Mohawk Park
