Der Findling von Sottrum

ACHTUNG: Das Listing ist nicht sehr lang - bitte komplett lesen.

Während der Eiszeiten wurden große Teile Europas mehrfach von dicken Eisschichten überzogen. Diese schoben sich in gewaltigen Massen von Skandinavien aus in Richtung Süden und rissen alles mit, was sich ihnen in den Weg stellte. Riesige Gebirgsteile wurden abgetragen und zu Kies, Sand und Ton zermahlen. Einige Gesteinsbrocken widerstanden dieser zermahlenden Kraft und gelangten, eingeschlossen im Eis, nach Norddeutschland und blieben dort als Findlinge liegen.

Ein Findling, auch Erratischer Block oder Erratiker genannt, ist ein heute meist einzeln liegender sehr großer Stein, der durch Gletscher während der Eiszeiten in seine heutige Lage verdriftet (transportiert und abgelegt) wurde. Die Grenze zwischen Findlingen und den kleineren Geschieben zieht man bei einem Volumen von einem Kubikmeter. (Quelle: Wikipedia).

Wie viele sicherlich wesentlich größere Findlinge gelangte wahrscheinlich auch dieser Erratiker während der Saale-Eiszeite aus Skandinavien in Richtung Süden ins heutige Sottrum, wo er 2003 während der Baumaßnahmen einer örtlichen Bank in der Baugrube gefunden, geborgen und an seinem heutigen Platz aufgestellt wurde.

Zum Loggen dieses Earthcaches müssen folgende Fragen beantwortet werden:

1. Der Findling wiegt mehr als AB Tonnen
2. Um welche Bank (= C) handelt es sich? 1 Wort. Da das gesuchte Wort leider in der E-Mail-Adresse nicht funktioniert muss bei diesem zusammengestzten Wort ein Bindestrich gestzt werden. Beispiel: aus gartenbank wird garten-bank
3. Der Findling wurde im Monat DE in 2003 gefunden. Gesucht werden zwei Zahlen.
4. Mach ein Foto von dir oder deinem GPS und dem Findling und lade diese Foto gemeinsam mit deinem Logeintrag hoch; das Foto ist eine Logbedingung; Logs ohne Foto werde ich kommentarlos löschen.

The Erratic of Sottrum

During the great ice age, large parts of Europe have been repeatedly covered by thick layers of ice. This ice pushed his way in huge masses from Scandinavia southwards and carried everything which get's in it's way. Hugh parts of overburden had been soil loss (as an erosion) and had been crumbled to pea gravel, sand and clay. Some pieces of rocks resists this high pressure and had been transported, covered in the ice layers, to the North of Germany and keep stayed there after melting of ice as erratic blocs.

In geology, a boulder is a rockwith grain size of usually no less than 256 mm (10 inches) diameter. While a boulder may be small enough to move or roll manually, others are extremely massive. In common usage, a boulder is too large for a person to move. Smaller boulders are usually just called rocksor stones. The word boulder comes from Middle English "bulder" which was probably of Scandinavianorigin such as dialectal Swedish"bullersten" meaning "noisy stone" (Imagine a large stone in a stream, causing waterto roar around it) from "bullra" (to roar, cf. Dutch"bulderen", with the same meaning) and "sten" (stone). (Source: Wikipedia).

As many other certainly much larger boulders probably came this boulder during the Saale glaciation from Scandinavia southwards to todays Sottrum, where he was discovered in 2003 during the construction of a local bank in the building pit and was placed at its present location.

To log this Earthcache the following questions must be answered:

1. The boulder weighs more than AB tons

2. About which bank (= C) do we think? 1 word. Since the word you are looking for does not work in the e-mail address, you must add a hyphen to this compound word. Example: gartenbank becomes garten-bank.

3. The boulder was found in the month DE in 2003. Two numbers are being searched for.

4. Take a picture of yourself or your GPS and the erratic and upload this picture up with your log entry.
   The photo is a log condition. I will delete logs without a photo without comment.
