Geocache Description:

A small plastic watertight on the Maricopa Trail west of I17.

I went out the other day to find the route of the Maricopa Trail from the I17/Dead Man’s Wash overpass to Lake Pleasant. It’s on the Maricopa Trail Map but it doesn’t seem to exist. But, a new trail is under construction from I17 to the back side of the Ben Avery Shooting Range. It must be the Maricopa Trail. The trail doesn’t connect to the east side of I17 yet because of cattle fences. It doesn’t progress beyond the shooting range because of bullets. The trail is usable presents a nice two mile walk with even terrain. You can access it where N Pioneer Road crosses Dead Man’s Wash, or on Correction Center Road at 33 49.662 112 09.465. Crossing the road and going SW will take you to the shooting range with signs warning not to enter. Going NE will take you to the I17/DMW overpass. Stay tuned. There has to be some trail bed that is going to cross the shooting range or Federal Prison Camp and arrive at Lake Pleasant.

The trail makes a small detour at this point around a very nice stand of Saguaros.

This is a plastic watertight about 50' off the trail with a FTF coin, TBs and some swag.

Have fun!
