Geocache Description:

This is a puzzle cache designed for children at the Chelmsford Museum. The museum is set in a Victorian House, with permanent displays on the Story of Chelmsford, natural history and geology, coins, art and social history, the answers will be found in these areas along with The Essex Regiment Museum which tells the story of the county regiment from its mid 18th century origins up to its incorporation in the Royal Anglian Regiment.


The cache has been placed with the kind permission of Chelmsford Borough Council. More details on the museum can be found at www.chelmsford.gov.uk

Opening Times are -

Mondays to Saturdays (including Bank Holidays except Good Friday): 10am to 5pm

Sundays: 1pm to 4pm

Closed: Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day

Entry is FREE!

The clues to locate this cache are found in the Chelmsford and Essex Museum. The above co-ordinates are for the museum (Not the cache) in Oaklands Park, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.

Outside the Museum-

is a Sevastopol cannon - captured from Sebastopol during the Crimean War 1854-56. It was outside the Shire Hall from 1858 and moved to its current spot in 193T.

On the Ground Floor -

In the Entrance area - There is a Crompton Motor Generator used on Southend Pier. The trams ran on W80 volts DC

In the Hoffman Display how many large balls are on the crown? ?-2 = D

In the Agricultural display - The model steam mill has how many floors = A

The Model Engineering workshop has how many lights in the model = B

Along the Corridor in the Old Drawing Room -

There is a Pagan and Christian Display - The Stone coffin displayed was found in 198S

In the Stories of Chelmsford from 1600 -

Displayed are police handcuffs in general use till the 1960's.The display no is 2R

First floor -

In the Music and Dance Room

The Regiment Museum

This area is guarded by two soldiers the private soldier is a replica from 1E41

There is a large selection of awarded medals on display. Exhibit Number two contains one medal. How many medals in exhibit No One? =C

The museum is set in the lovely Oaklands Park so allow enough time to play in the park and see the newly carved totem pole.
