This cache was formerly named 'Short Cut', but I just found out
that this trail actually has a name - the Kiy Connector, named
after the late Dirk Kiy. Dirk loved and was loved by the community
of Salmon Arm. He worked with troubled young people, ran an outdoor
adventure centre, coached high school volleyball and wrote and
published many stories. He had a passion for all music and
nature.
A short walk away from Pileated Woods, you can enter the trail
either from the corner of 11th Street SE and 4th Ave SE, or from
Old Auto Road SE, where Google Maps says that 11th Street
connects.
Note: Google Maps
lies! 11th Street SE does not actually connect to Old Auto Rd! It
stops at 4th Ave. This is where the trail starts.
Terrain and fairly dense tree cover caused absolutely terrible
GPS reception near the cache. Be prepared to search for a bit.
