Ciao collega Geocacher,

dopo oltre due mesi dalla mia ultima nota, non ho ricevuto alcuna risposta.

Per questa ragione sono costretto ad archiviare questo cache. Se non lo hai ancora fatto, per favore raccogli ogni resto del cache al più presto possibile.
Se avete intenzione di intervenire sul cache, una volta completata l'operazione per favore lasciatemi un messaggio con il numero waypoint GC relativo al cache. Sarò più che lieto di verificare nuovamente il cache per verificare la sua conformità con le linee guida.

after more than two months from my last note I have not receive any answer and no action has been taken on the cache. For this reason, I am archiving it. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.
If you are going to fix the problems connected to this cache, once it is ready please drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache. I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Fu la Contrada dei cacciatori da cui l'esercito senese prelevava i migliori arcieri, da qui il suo emblema e il diritto di aprire e chiudere il corteo che precedeva le "Cacce ai tori".

Ha la sede in Piazzetta della Selva. Sua Patrona la Madonna Assunta. La Chiesa (Oratorio di San Sebastiano) peruzziana, conserva un basso-rilievo in terracotta rappresentante la Vergine Maria con il Bambino la cui fattura viene attribuita a Donatello.

Prima di officiare questa Chiesa i suoi uomini si riunivano nella Cappella della Compagnia di San Giovanni Battista e, dopo, nella Pieve di San Giovanni. Qui si spostarono nell'attuale Chiesa da cui furono allontanati, dopo dieci anni, da un rescritto granducale (1787) che cedeva l'Oratorio alla Pantera (fatto che intensificò la rivalità con quest'ultima Contrada).

La Selva ebbe all'ora l'antica Chiesa di San Desiderio, celebre per aver ospitato, in un turno di quattro mesi all'anno, insieme a San Cristoforo e San Pellegrino, il Governo della Repubblica senese anteriormente alla costruzione del Palazzo Comunale. Per i danni che il terremoto provocò a questa Chiesa (26 maggio 1798) i "Selvaioli" furono costretti a un nuovo trasferimento nella Chiesa di San Niccolò in sasso (territorio dell'Aquila) e infine, nel 1818, tornarono nell'Oratorio di San Sebastiano dove, finalmente, si sono insediati.

Abitarono nel territorio di questa Contrada il pittore- scultore Lorenzo di Pietro detto il Vecchietta (1412-1480), l'architetto e pittore Francesco di Giorgio Martini (1439 -1512).

La Società è ubicata sotto la Chiesa di San Sebastiano (territorio della Pantera).

This was the Contrada of huntsmen from which the Sienese army chose the best archers. This accounts for the Contrada emblem and its right to open and close the procession which preceded the "Caccia ai Tori" (bull-hunt).
Its Seat is in the piazzetta della Selva and its Patron Saint is the Madonna Assunta. The Peruzzi style Church (Oratory of San Sebastiano) has a bas-relief in terracotta which represents the Virgin Mary with Child believed to be by Donatello.

Before the Church was officiated, the men of the Contrada met in the Cappella della Compagnia di San Giovanni Battista and after in the Pieve di San Giovanni. From here they moved to the present Church but were sent away after 10 years by a Granducal rescript in 1787 which assigned the Oratory to the Pantera Contrada, thus intensifying the rivalry between the two Contradas. The Selva then moved to the ancient Church of San Desiderio, famous for being used, for four months a year by the Government of the Republic of Siena (before the Palazzo Pubblico - Town Hall -was built). Together with the Churches of San Cristoforo and San Pellegrino. The damage done to the Church of San Desiderio by the earthquake of 26th May 1798 forced the Selva Contrada to move to the Church of San Nicolò in Sasso (Aquila Contrada territory) and finally in 1818, they moved back to the Oratory of San Sebastiano where they finally settled.

The painter and sculptor Lorenzo di Pietro, nicknamed "il Vecchietta" (1412-1480), the architect and painter Francesco di Giorgio Martini (1439 to 1512) both lived on the territory of this Contrada.

The baptismal font is the work of Vinicio Guastatori (1965).

The "Società" is under the Church of San Sebastiano (Pantera Contrada territory).
