Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of the Woodland Trust

A short amble on gravel paths in this beautiful, historic woodland. This wood is very close to the motorway but noise aside, is one of the most attractive, litter-free woods we have ever visited and we come here often with Charlie

Stoke Wood can be found 4 miles north west of Bicester and is something of a local attraction, especially with families and dog walkers. Stoke Wood is an ancient woodland and is surrounded by a medieval earthwork. This was an incredible feat of engineering and involved manoeuvre (by hand) of 8400 cubic yards of stones & earth. We had to place this cache away from the earthwork to protect it, so please dont search for the cache on or near the ditch. There are several open glades and a natural meadow which provide important habitats for wildlife. Bluebells, primroses and orchids, can be found in the wood along with adder’s tongue in the central area. There is a large standing dead cherry, a wild service tree and a hornbeam coppice (thought to be very old). Not forgetting an abundance of birdlife including a resident Tawny Owl.

Please cover this cache carefully when you have finished and watch out for muggles who will appear from nowhere.

We hope you enjoy your visit.
