Another Grey Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

denjoa: It is time to archive the “grey series” of four caches - our first caches so it hurts. We have created others and when spring visits to one’s caches become a burden, some must go. The cache container was removed from this site today but perhaps others will use this area because at the moment there are no other caches on this unassumed road - the Manvers-Scugog-Townline Road between Grey Road and Fallis Road - and it is really a lovely place to walk especially in the fall.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted co-ordinates!
Congratulations to Nathan B and adamboon for the joint FTF!

1. Introduction

It was a grey day in January that started this series - intended to tickle your grey matter - of which this is the second cache placed. The large "micro" cache (log only) is a pill container - push and turn (and it’s sticky!) - located at about knee level. The find is not difficult - the difficulty rating is due to the necessity for solving a puzzle before hitting the trail.

Once you have the cache co-ordinates, you would be wise to approach the cache from the south. Road-side parking is available about 450 m south of the cache which is on an unassumed road. The trail may, depending upon the time of year, be negotiable by certain vehicles - we all know our own potential in this regard. Since the cache was placed in the late winter, we have no idea of what noxious plants or insects may make their homes here - so be careful. There is a worthwhile vista to the east - best on a sunny afternoon.

2. The Puzzle

In order to determine the co-ordinates of the cache, you will need to use your research skills - and a little insight may help. The letters represent the years in which each of these groups first attained the Canadian goal which was their common objective.

Alerts - A _______
Blues - B _______
Hurricanes - C ______
Imperials - D ______
‘Pegs - E _______
Senators - F ______

3. The Co-ordinates

To find the co-ordinates of the cache, a little arithmetic is required; remember the proper order of operations; often referred to as BEDMAS. Consider that sometimes it is appropriate to simplify an expression (where possible) before substituting . . . but not always!

G= (C - B) - 2(F - B): ____
H = (C - A) - (E - B): ____
J = (D - B) - (E - A): ____
K = (E - F) - (A - B): ____
L = (D - F) - (C - E): ____
M = 2(C - D) - (C - F) + (E - D): ____

N 44º 08.GHJ’ becomes: ______________________

W 078º 43.KLM’ becomes: ______________________

If you think you will want at some point to do "Our Final Grey Cache" (surely there's no doubt here!) please record the above co-ordinates.
