Geocache Description:

This multi-cache in Pocahontas State Park will give you a glimpse of what the land looked like before it became a park. You will find what you need at each stage. It is a long hike to get to all of the caches, about 5 miles, but this is a great way to get out and enjoy the park.

You might want to get a copy of the park trails map before you take off on this one at http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/poc.shtml . Your best bet is to park in the pool parking lot in the main part of the park (N37° 23.293’ W078° 34.708’). The first two stages are not containers. (Be aware that there is another cache near stage 1 that has a container.) The first stage takes you to one of 18 graveyards in the park, the second is an old cabin site, and the final is at an old out building for a farm that is long gone. Look around at each stage and you will easily find what you need to get to the next stage. Last stage has a regular lock-n-lock box with log and the park’s wildlife collector’s card.

This cache was part of the 2010 Virginia State Parks Geocaching Wildlife Adventure. This series ended on December 15, 2010. However, a volunteer has taken over this cache so it is still active. Rewards are no longer available for this cache, but we will be launching the Virginia State Parks 75th Anniversary Geocaching Adventure in March 2011.
