On May 1, 2000, President Bill Clinton announced
that the United States would stop the intentional degradation of
the Global Positioning System, better known as selective
availability. The next day at approximately midnight, twenty-four
satellites around the globe processed their new orders, and
instantly the accuracy of GPS technology improved tenfold. Tens of
thousands of GPS receivers around the world had an instant upgrade
and the road was paved for Geocaching. 10 years later, there are
over a million active geocaches worldwide!
Where:
Romio’s Pizza & Pasta
4101 Airport Way South
Seattle, WA 98108-5218
(206) 381-1440
When:
May 1, 2010 7:00 PM
This event is part of a worldwide celebration held only on May 1
& 2. You can spend the day doing our favorite pastime, then
gather for dinner or drinks, swap stories, and put faces to the
names you see only in cache logs. At 8:00 we will cozy up for a
group photo and distribute some door prizes.
Romio’s is opening up their restaurant exclusively for us
that evening. Please post your “will attend” so
they’ll be able to staff the place appropriately to serve us
well. They assure me there will be plenty of available parking and
can accommodate special dietary needs (such as gluten free pizza
dough) if you notify them at least 1 week in advance.
UPDATE: This restaurant has a maximum capacity of 50 and it
looks like we are going to completely fill the place. The
restaurant management asks that everyone try to look at the menu as
soon as you are seated as they want to give us good service and it
will take a while for the kitchen to prepare meals for that many
people. Thank you for making it easier for them to take good care
of us!
