Geocache Description:

Black Country Rabbit #1

This cache can be found within the grounds of Willenhall Memorial Park, and you are looking for a magnetic nano.

The Park is an attractive urban space situated on the northern fringes of the Black Country. Created out of the spoil heaps of a former colliery it is a fine example of a successful early derelict land reclamation. The Park was conceived as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the Great War and much of the design and work was carried out by local unemployed ex-servicemen. The Park's hey day was probably in the mid-20th Century when its leafy spaces echoed to the sound of tea dances, birdsong, and local brass bands.
The period of decline, which followed during the 1980's and 90's, was halted by the formation of the Friends of Willenhall Memorial Park who - with the help of Walsall Council's Local Involvement Programme formulated plans to restore the Park to its former glory.
A successful £1.2m Heritage Lottery bid resulted in an ambitious programme of improvements, guided by a Restoration Plan.
The key features of the restoration project are: conservation of the Park's heritage features; creation of brand new facilities including a bandstand and pavilion, skate park & games area, conservation area: and the involvement of the Friends Group and local community. The Park is maintained to a high standard by a small but dedicated team of gardeners. There are two Park Rangers who are working hard to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors.
