The 1755 Mary Draper Ingles story of survival is an amazing testament to pioneer courage and fortitude. After being captured by Indians, probably Shawnee, during a brutal Indian raid during the French & Indian War, Mary Draper Ingles escaped and succeeded in making her way home 800+ miles in winter wilderness despite enduring hardship.
