Continuing the fine tradition of SA Parrotheads 2009
event
"We Didn't Start The Fire"
Come and enjoy the October Long Weekend traversing Googs
Track.
Googs Track runs north from Ceduna until you meet the
Transcontinental Railway Line at Malbooma passing through the
Yumbarra Conservation Park and the Yellabinna Recreation Reserve
along the way.
Googs Track was named after John (Goog) Denton who envisioned that
a road heading from Ceduna to Tarcoola would be of considerable
value to the region. Goog decided to undertake this enormous task
in 1976 and with the help from his family, the track was finished
in around three years.

Googs Memorial
The Main Event

cookup for breakfast to showcase your culinary skills at preparing
the most important meal of the day.

Camping near Goog's lake
Vehicle Requirements
This is a terrain 5 cache
for a reason
It is a necessity that your vehicle is a high clearance, low range
equipped 4WD,
You must carry a minimum of 1 spare tyre AND tyre puncture repair
equipment,
You must have some recovery equipment ie shovel, snatch strap
etc,(this can be shared between vehicles)
Specific sand recovery equipment if you have it ie MAXTRAX,
You will need to air down your tyre's in order to drive on Googs
Track as it is very sandy so a compressor would be a good
idea,
The fuel capacity to travel 400km between stops, fuel is available
at Kingoonya via a credit card with a PIN only, otherwise the next
available fuel is Glendambo after leaving Ceduna
And a UHF radio would be a good idea to join in the convoy
chatter
A Sand Flag
Convoy Procedures
The convoy will be split into 2 packets of a roughly equal amount
of vehicles to each packet.
Each packet will have a 'Packet Commander' in charge of the
vehicles within the packet.
There will also be a 'Convoy Commander' in charge of the overall
convoy.
The second packet of vehicles will depart 1 hour after the first
packet. This will help to alleviate trying to manouvre a large
number of vehicles.
There will be limited time for caching on the first day. This is
essentially a travelling day to get us close to the start of the
track.
If you want to pick up any caches feel free to do so but the convoy
will not wait for you.
It is assumed that all people will have a UHF radio, if not then we
will do the headlight thing.
When someone has a minor problem that they can drive with they turn
the lights off and keep driving, the person in front of them turns
their lights off and so on untill the packet leader spots no lights
on the vehicle behind him and then he finds somewhere safe to pull
over and everyone stops in the safe place and the problem gets
sorted.

If you own a cache along our intended route that needs maintenance
please get in contact with someone on the attending list and we
will be happy to be of assistance if we can.
Logging Your Intentions
When logging your 'Will Attend' please include how many people are
coming with you, if you have any spare seating available in the
vehicle, your vehicle type (to assess suitability), and any
recovery gear you are bringing along.
Last year people shared vehicles and costs quite sucessfully, if
you would like to come along but do not have a suitable vehicle it
is suggested you contact someone who is coming and who has spare
seating.
